1. This website
Hosting
This website is hosted by Netlify, Inc. (San Francisco, USA). When you visit it, Netlify processes technically necessary data such as your IP address, date and time, the page requested, browser and operating system in server log files in order to deliver the site and protect it from abuse. The legal basis is our legitimate interest in secure and stable operation (Art. 6 (1) (f) GDPR). Netlify processes the data as a processor; any transfer to the USA is based on the EU Standard Contractual Clauses.
No cookies, no analytics
This website does not set cookies, does not use any analytics or advertising services, and does not load fonts, scripts or videos from third-party servers. The film and all images are hosted on our own web space.
Web app
The web app at /app/ stores your sign-in and the most recently selected circle in your browser’s storage so that you stay signed in; both are deleted when you sign out. For sign-in we use Google Firebase Authentication; content comes from our server in Frankfurt (see section “The app”). Only if you choose “Sign in with Apple” or “Continue with Google” does the sign-in page load Apple’s or Google’s sign-in service; if you select Bundesliga clubs, your browser requests the list and the results from OpenLigaDB (Premier League, LaLiga and Serie A data is fetched by our server from football-data.org); if, as the editor, you search for your newspaper’s location, your browser requests the place name from Open-Meteo. An offline cache in the browser only stores the web app’s program files, no content.
App Store
Links to the App Store lead to Apple. Apple’s privacy policy only applies once you click such a link.
If you write to us, we use your message and address only to reply to you (Art. 6 (1) (b) and (f) GDPR) and delete them once they are no longer needed for that purpose.
2. The app
What it’s about
The Inner Press creates private newspapers for families and groups of friends. We only process what is necessary for this and do not sell any data. There are no ads and no tracking.
What data
Account: email address or Apple or Google sign-in, and your name. Content: your posts, photos, captions and links, circles, roles and invitations. Technical: device identifier for notifications and purchase receipts from Apple. The legal basis is the performance of the user agreement (Art. 6 (1) (b) GDPR).
Where the data is stored
We store accounts, circles and posts with Google Firebase in Frankfurt (EU). Photos are stored in private Google Cloud storage in the USA; only members of your circle receive them via the app. Google is our processor; transfers to the USA are based on the EU Standard Contractual Clauses or the EU-US Data Privacy Framework.
Photo suggestions
Only if you tap “Suggest photos” does the app ask for access to your photos. You can also share only selected photos. Your photos of the week are selected exclusively on your iPhone; we receive neither your photos nor how many there are. Only the photo you send in a post yourself is uploaded. You can change access at any time in your iPhone Settings under Privacy → Photos.
Photos and retention
Photos in an issue are kept until the next issue, for at least seven days; with Inner Press+ they are kept permanently. Texts remain in the archive until the circle or your account is deleted.
Sign-in
With “Sign in with Apple” or “Continue with Google”, we receive an identifier from Apple or Google and, if you allow it, your name and email. With Apple, you can hide your email.
Apple Intelligence and dictation
Text suggestions, image recognition, dictation and images with Image Playground are created directly on your iPhone. If you use ChatGPT in Writing Tools or in Image Playground, the terms of Apple and OpenAI apply; you set this up yourself in your iPhone Settings.
AI editing, comic and cartoon
These Inner Press+ features use a service by OpenAI (USA). Only when the editor uses them and agrees beforehand does our server send the posts concerned (headline and text) and, where applicable, photos to OpenAI to create a suggestion. OpenAI processes the data on our behalf, does not use it for training and deletes it after 30 days at the latest. The transfer to the USA is based on the EU Standard Contractual Clauses. A suggestion only appears once the editor accepts it.
Instagram and links
If you paste an Instagram link, your iPhone retrieves the post’s public page in order to take over the photos and caption. For the “On Instagram” section, we store the profile names entered in the circle; your iPhone retrieves Instagram’s public profile widget. Please only take over content that you are allowed to share in the circle, and only add profiles whose owners have agreed.
Location and weather
If the editor enters a location, we store its name and approximate coordinates. When an issue comes out, our server or your iPhone uses them to request the weather from the German Weather Service (Deutscher Wetterdienst, via Bright Sky). The location search uses Apple’s maps service.
Our Clubs
For sports results, we store the selected clubs in the circle. Your iPhone retrieves results, fixtures and tables for the Bundesliga from OpenLigaDB (openligadb.de) and club logos from Wikimedia Commons; only the request itself and your IP address are transmitted. Premier League, LaLiga and Serie A data is requested by our server from football-data.org (Football data provided by the Football-Data.org API); only the clubs’ IDs are sent there, no data about you. Your iPhone loads these leagues’ club logos directly from football-data.org, which transmits your IP address.
Letters to the editor, hearts and questions
Letters to the editor and hearts on a post are visible to everyone in the circle; letters to the editor appear with your name in the next issue. Questions for the boss or the board are only visible to the editor; we do store anonymous questions with your account (so that you can delete them), but we never show anyone who asked them. Answers to the Question of the Week are visible only to the editor before the issue comes out (others only see that you have answered); after that, they appear in the paper with your name. For a special edition, we store the occasion, the name of the person being celebrated and the date. The circle stores the logo and start dates (for work anniversaries); only the anniversary appears in the paper. Reading aloud and dictation happen on your iPhone.
Purchases and notifications
You buy Inner Press+ and Extrablatt+ through Apple. We only receive a purchase receipt, no payment details. For notifications, we store a device identifier from Apple (APNs).
3. Your rights
You have the right to access, rectification, erasure, restriction of processing, data portability and objection. You can also lodge a complaint with a data protection supervisory authority. You can delete your account and your posts yourself in the app under Settings → Delete account and your content; you’ll also find a data export there. For all other requests, simply send an email to info@fairwayjournal.de.
